Gus' Fanart

lol
This is fanart from the anonymous Gus, who also draws webcomics but does not put them on the web. I hope you enjoyed this strip as much as I did! He also included a recipe:

Peanut Butter and Jelly Pancakes
make pancakes per usual
apply peanut butter to one
and jelly to the other
make a pancake sandwich
yaaaaaay

I'm pretty sure the "yay" is something you say over it before eating it. seems important.
look for more webcomics from Gus in an alternate reality where we or someone we know makes the effort to design a website

GORD HYDN 2

So, I bought a pen recommended to me, but it didn't work very well. Probably 'cause I'm not very good with pens, or with line quality generally. I don't know why these turned out so blurry. I think that next week I will have my scanner up and running, and I may just repost the first two strips then.
Recipe is posted under this post, in case you did not notice.

brownies

I decided to split up the recipes and comics. Here is this week's recipe. comic will come shortly.
This is not my recipe, but I think it's pretty neat. I did work on a recipe this week, but it's not as interesting.

Black Bean Brownies!?!
http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/amazing-black-bean-brownies-recipe.html
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 cup unsalted butter
2 cups soft-cooked black beans, drained well (hs: canned is fine)
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
¼ cup (granulated) natural coffee substitute (or instant coffee, for gluten-sensitive)
¼ teaspoon sea salt
4 large eggs
1½ cups light agave nectar
Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line an 11- by 18-inch (rimmed) baking pan (hs note: or jellyroll pan) with parchment paper and lightly oil with canola oil spray.
Melt the chocolate and butter in a glass bowl in the microwave for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes on high. Stir with a spoon to melt the chocolate completely.
Place the beans, 1/2 cup of the walnuts, the vanilla extract, and a couple of spoonfuls of the melted chocolate mixture into the bowl of a food processor.
Blend about 2 minutes, or until smooth. The batter should be thick and the beans smooth. Set aside.
In a large bowl, mix together the remaining 1/2 cup walnuts, remaining melted chocolate mixture, coffee substitute, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
In a separate bowl, with an electric mixer beat the eggs until light and creamy, about 1 minute. Add the agave nectar and beat well. Set aside.
Add the bean/chocolate mixture to the coffee/chocolate mixture. Stir until blended well.
Add the egg mixture, reserving about 1/2 cup. Mix well. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Using an electric mixer, beat the remaining 1/2 cup egg mixture until light and fluffy. Drizzle over the brownie batter.
Use a wooden toothpick to pull the egg mixture through the batter, creating a marbled effect.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until the brownies are set. Let cool in the pan completely before cutting into squares. (They will be soft until refrigerated.)
Makes 45 (2-inch) brownies.

Underfold Crossover!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

in case you are not in the know, this is what you call a fanart, not to be confused with an antfart, which scientists tell me lingers in those ant hill labrynths something awful, and that combined with the work and the almost complete absence of sex or internet, and the unbearable heat in there . . . um wait, I was talking about fanarts. This is Brian C. Russell's fanart, nicely rapping up my newly abandoned comic strip in the best way possible, by feeding it to Marmaduke. And I'll take this opportunity to state again how important it is that everyone go to theunderfold.com if for no other reason than to marvel at my fanarts. And I really encourage everyone to make fanarts for something you love or don't hate. It's easy to do, and a great way to really show how much better they are at what they do than you are.
Anyways, I've rambled enough. I have more Twilight to read! *shame*

Gord Hydn, pilot

Hi guys. good to be back. This is my new strip. it's called GORD HYDN.
I'm having a heck of a lot of trouble making it look neat with a white background. Hopefully I'll have that figured out before the next strip. If anyone has any tips, let me know.
I plan on updating once a week, and working my way up 'til I find like the perfect number of weekly updates. Also, I plan to include a recipe with each strip, but don't be surprised by the slight weirdness of my recipes; they usually taste ok. Here is today's:

Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients:
1 C whole wheat elbow macaroni
1 12 oz beer
1/4 C sour cream
1/4 C evaporated milk
2 Tbsp olive oil
3/4 C shredded sharp cheddar
1/4 tsp mustard powder
1/4 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp - 2 tsp louisiana hot sauce (amount depends on your tolerance. I use ALOT)
salt and pepper to taste (I like red pepper for this)

Directions:
Boil noodles in large pot of salted water with beer.
In small saucepan, whisk sour cream, olive oil, and evaporated milk together and heat on medium-low til hot (probably don't want to let this boil though). Lower heat. Add in spices and cheese, whisk 'til cheese is melted.
Strain noodles and add to cheese sauce. Mix it up. Let it cook on medium low for five minutes or so while the noodles absorb the sauce. Eat.

*optional addition: sliced yellow squash, which would be boiled with the noodles, but may take longer than the noodles so let it boil by itself for a bit before adding the noodles

Do you have a favorite mac and cheese recipe? I want to hear about it!

oh, also I just did a fan art for Brian at TheUnderfold.com, so go read that, after having read every episode so you will understand what's going on in my fan strip.

announcement

This announcement is a little late, but I've taken a break again due to the fast approaching end of the school year. Also, hardly anyone is posting right now, so I don't feel very much compelled to get on blogger.

Also though, I'm starting to question the merit of posting so frequently. I wonder if it isn't somewhat self-serving and masturbatory. When you consider the multitude of artistic and social expression out there competing for people's attention, it's quite inconsiderate, rude, and I might even go as far as to say immoral to waste people's time with anything less than one's best effort.

That being said, I hope to make a more serious effort this summer, not because I take myself or what I'm doing here at all seriously, but just because it's kind of the right thing to do.
